Kristi Gusts, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #53744
ABOUT:
Hi! I am glad you're here. I am a therapist accepting new clients virtually and in person in Anchor's Pasadena office. I am also a feminist, mother, and cat lover. While I do see a wide variety of clients, my focus is maternal mental health, in which I support mothers and new parents throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period. Many of my clients have experienced depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, rage/anger, grief, loss of identity, infertility, perinatal loss, LGBTQIA+ issues, and birth trauma. The transition to parenthood can be daunting, and I look forward to meeting you to help process and integrate all the beautiful messiness that comes with it. In addition to Maternal Mental Health issues, I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and competent, body positive, sex worker positive, kink friendly, and work with folks in open relationships/non-monogamy.
Your connection with a therapist is an important one. I believe no single therapeutic approach is going to work for everyone, so our 20 minute complimentary consultation is going to focus primarily on identifying your needs and determining if we would be a good fit. I am trained in a variety of modalities including Depth Psychology, Somatic Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Therapy. The therapist/client relationship is a partnership and I have a knack for asking the hard questions in a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental environment.
My educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from University of California, Irvine and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. I have over fifteen years' experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced trauma, depression and anxiety, suicidality and self harm, grief and loss, and codependency. During my time working for Penny Lane Centers, I was on the task force for the EDGY Conference and have a passion working with LGBTQIA youth.
Rebecca Solnit wrote, "We are our stories, stories that can be both prison and the crowbar to break open the door of that prison... Liberation is always in part a storytelling process: breaking stories, breaking silences, making new stories. A free person tells her own story."
I would love to meet with you and help you heal and grow by telling yours.
